Frequently Asked Questions
How is GPA calculated?
GPA = (sum of grade points × credit hours for each course) ÷ total credit hours. An A is 4.0 points, B is 3.0, C is 2.0, and so on.
What is a good GPA?
A GPA of 3.5 or above is generally considered very good. 3.7+ qualifies for Magna Cum Laude at most schools. 4.0 is a perfect GPA.
Does this use the standard 4.0 scale?
Yes — the calculator uses the standard US 4.0 GPA scale with plus/minus grades (A+ and A are both 4.0).
Is this tool free?
Yes, completely free and no registration required.
How this is calculated
GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) / Σ credits
What this assumes
- Uses the US 4.0 scale, where A and A+ both count as 4.0.
- It is a credit-weighted average, so a course with more credits moves the result more.
- Schools differ. If yours weights A+ above 4.0 or uses a different scale, this result will not match your transcript.
Calculate your GPA
A GPA (Grade Point Average) calculator turns your course grades and credit hours into a single average that summarises your academic performance. Enter each course with its grade and weight, and it computes the weighted result.
It saves you the error-prone manual maths of multiplying, summing and dividing by hand.
When students need their GPA
- Tracking your GPA across a term or whole degree.
